Beat the Holiday Blues

Why not get a head start on your new year’s resolutions this holiday season by taking some simple actions now towards healthy eating and physical activity. You won’t have to wake up on January 1st with that over-indulgence hang-over and extra pounds. But that doesn’t mean you need to take the fun out of the holidays either. Take a balanced approach to eating and exercise, while enjoying those activities that come once a year.

Check out the CDC's Healthy Recipes section for more information on eating right.  You will find resources for different recipes and techniques to keep it tasting good, but are also good for you. You can also read about how to stay healthy during the holidays including eat well and get moving, prepare dinner safely, practice fire safety, get your vaccinations, get exams and screenings, fasten belts while driving, BE SMOKE-FREE, don't drink and drive, manage stress, bundle up for warmth, and wash hands to be safe and healthy. You can also watch the podcast on healthy holidays.

But once the holiday is over it is on to New Year’s resolutions!  Resolutions are hard to keep for most of us.  Make the following conscious decisions all year long and you are on your way to a healthier life.

  • Eat breakfast every day
  • Drink water
  • Eat smaller food portions.
  • Maintain a physical activity routine
  • Prepare a healthy lunch at home and take it to work
