Has the changing economy impacted your health insurance coverage?
Your next steps might be confusing, so here are some things to consider:
- Don’t delay your decision. A break in coverage of more than a certain amount of days may prevent coverage for pre-existing conditions.
- You must enroll in the school’s plan within a specific number of days of losing your other coverage.
- The plan is offered per academic year, so you can remain covered until the end of the school year and re-enroll next Fall if your enrollment status is the same at the school.
- The annual student health insurance premium may cost less than COBRA premiums. However, since coverage differs among health plans, both premium costs and benefit designs (including issues such as plan maximums, exclusions and limitations) are important factors to consider when you compare plans.
- The plan provides access to a Preferred Provider Network. Because participating providers have agreed to accept negotiated rates as payment for their services, you can achieve significant savings when you visit a network provider.
Compare the sponsored student health insurance plan with your current coverage. Consider these factors to help you make your decision: cost of premiums and deductibles, plan maximums, exclusions and limitations, covered benefits, duration of coverage and whether out of network care is covered.
To learn more about your school’s health insurance plan find your school or contact 800-966-7772 for enrollment procedures, enrollment dates and plan information.
The student health insurance plan is underwritten by Aetna Life Insurance Company (ALIC) and administered by Chickering Claims Administrators, Inc. Aetna Student Health is the brand name for products and services provided by these companies and their applicable affiliated companies.
