2019/2020 Plan Changes

What is new for the 2019 / 2020 Student Insurance Plan?

Below are the changes that will affect the 2019/2020 USC student insurance plan. Information in italics is what is new for 2019/2020.

Pharmacy

Beginning in the 2019/2020 academic you’ll have a new 3-Tier pharmacy plan.

Tier 1: Generic Drugs:
10% Copay ($15 minimum copay, $50 maximum copay)

Tier 2: Brand Formulary (preferred) Drugs:
20% Copay ($40 minimum copay, $150 maximum copay)

Tier 3: Brand Non Formulary (non-preferred) Drugs:
20% ($75 minimum copay, $150 maximum copay)

Under the new Aetna Pharmacy Plan you will continue to have a choice of pharmacies as well as Aetna’s assistance with your pharmacy questions.

Under the new Aetna Pharmacy Plan most brand name drugs will have a higher copay.

Beginning on August 19, 2019 you can access information about the Aetna Pharmacy Plan via the Aetna app on your mobile phone including cost of drugs under the new plan, pharmacy locations, whether or not a drug will require Precertification or Step Therapy.

Out of Pocket Maximum (OOP)

The Out of Pocket Maximum amounts will remain the same for the 2019/2020 plan year:

Tier 1: $6,000
Tier 2: $6,000
Tier 3: $12,000

Beginning in the 2019/2020 academic plan year, the Out of Pocket Maximums will cross apply across all 3 tiers. The maximum OOP will be $12,000 combined for all three tiers.

Emergency Room Services

Beginning in the 2019/2020 academic plan year, Emergency room services will now be subject to the plan deductible.

You will now be responsible for meeting your deductible ($450 In-Network/$900 Out of Network) in addition to the Emergency Room Copay of $150 (per visit).

USC Physical Therapy

Beginning in the 2019/2020 academic plan year, NO referral are required for services obtained at USC Physical Therapy.

If you are seeking services at any other Physical Therapy provider, you will need to obtain a referral from the student health center.
