The George Washington University

Welcome to The George Washington University student health insurance plan website.

Aetna Student Health gives you access to care by working closely with your school and with a network of doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and specialists throughout the country.

The George Washington University requires all Medical, Nursing, Health Sciences, as well as J-1 and F-1 visa students to have health insurance. J-1 visa students are required under federal mandate to have insurance. In addition, George Washington University requires all F-1 and J-1 visa students to have adequate health insurance.

This site contains information about the requirements and features of the GW student health insurance plan.

Waiver Provisions:
George Washington University requires all F-1 or J-1 International, Medical, Nursing and Health Sciences students to waive the University insurance plan each academic year. Make sure you are not left mid-year without appropriate health coverage—it could hinder your academic progress.

If you are a Medical, Nursing, Health Sciences and/or a F-1/J-1 visa student at GW in Fall 2015, you may waive coverage under this plan if you have health insurance that meets all of the George Washington University waiver criteria. You will need to provide information about your coverage. An accepted waiver applies to the Fall 2014 semester and the remainder of the current academic year. Important: If you do not waive coverage, you will be automatically enrolled in the George Washington University student health insurance plan and charged the applicable Premium to your Student Account. Once you use the plan OR if you do not waive the plan by the published deadline, you will be covered and the plan cannot be cancelled.

Please note, George Washington University reserves the right to make FINAL waiver decisions, regardless of Aetna Student Health’s waiver site or Audit determination.
