Welcome to University of Virginia student health insurance plan website.
Aetna Student Health gives you access to care by working closely with your school and with a network of doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and specialists throughout the country.
Dear U.Va. Students and Parents of Students,
Aetna Student Health will continue to administer the University of Virginia (U.Va.) Student Health Insurance Plan outlined in the Summary of Benefits document for the 2014-2015 academic year. U.Va. requires all students to maintain health insurance as a
condition of enrollment.
All non-United States citizens (i.e., international students) must maintain certain levels of health insurance coverage to comply with U.Va.’s hard-waiver health-insurance program and United States immigration regulations.
The U.Va. Student Health Insurance Plan was developed for students; undergraduate and graduate students are involved in the annual review of the Plan’s benefits. U.Va. endorses the Plan with confidence. The Plan includes prescription and behavioral health
benefits and assures students access to excellent care.
Aetna Student Health has more than 30 years’ experience with student health insurance and partners with approximately 200 universities and colleges, including many of our peer institutions. As a subsidiary of Aetna, the largest managed care company in the
United States, Aetna Student Health offers nationwide access to participating providers. Travel assistance is part of the Plan.
The Plan complements the services available at U.Va. Elson Student Health Center, where students can see a health Provider
at no charge. Students are strongly encouraged to use these services before seeking treatment elsewhere, which generally keeps Premium
charges lower. At Student Health, customary ancillary charges (e.g., lab tests, injections, eligible medical equipment) will be submitted to Aetna Student Health and paid at 100%.
Enrollment instructions and an outline of the Plan benefits are explained in the Summary of Benefits document. This information, including instructions for online enrollment, is also available on the Aetna Student Health website. If you need additional information,
call Aetna Student Health Customer Service at (800) 466-3027.
We wish you the best in the year ahead. Sincerely,
Chris P. Holstege, M.D.
Executive Director of the Department of Student Health
