Choose your health plan coverage

Students must take action on their health coverage. You can enroll in the SLU Student Health Insurance (UHP) plan.  Or, you can waive it with proof of other coverage that meets the SLU waiver criteria.

Be sure to take action before the semester deadline to avoid automatic enrollment and charges.

Aetna Student Health℠ gives you access to quality care nationwide, working closely with your school to meet your unique needs as a student.

Waive your student health coverage

Already have health insurance? If you’re covered under another plan that meets SLU waiver criteria—like a parent’s, spouse’s, or employer’s—you can waive the SLU Student Health Insurance (UHP) plan.

To waive coverage, you’ll need your 9-digit SLU-issued Banner ID number.

Waive coverage

General waive criteria for all students

You can waive coverage if you already have active health insurance that meets the SLU waiver criteria. If your coverage ends during the school year, you must keep another health insurance plan for the rest of your academic year. Your plan must include coverage for inpatient hospital and outpatient/clinic care, mental health services, treatment for drug and alcohol misuse, and prescription medications—all within the St. Louis area.

Specific waiver criteria for domestic students

Your plan provides benefits with no policy maximums, such as no caps or limits on the dollar amount the plan will play within a policy year or period.

Specific waiver criteria for international students

The plan must have:

  • A U.S. mailing address for provider medical claim submission and U.S. phone number for member and customer service.
  • A deductible of $500 or less.
  • At least $25,000 for repatriation and $50,000 for emergency medical evacuation.

Qualifying life event

If you have a major life change—like getting married, having a baby, adopting a child, or losing other health coverage—and you want to enroll in the SLU plan, you can apply. To do this, submit a Qualifying Life Event (QLE) enrollment form and supporting documents to the SLU Student Health Insurance (UHP) office. You must send everything within 31 days of the qualifying life event.
